Jan Vacha

You don't have to figure it out alone.

Hello,

My name is Jan Vacha and I understand that when life shifts faster than you can orient yourself, it helps to have somewhere to process — to feel and to think. Some moments in life simply ask more of us than we know how to give, and it is completely understandable that in those moments, we need space and support to deal with the difficulties that life throws at us. Life in the modern world is full of complexity which can be overwhelming. It can also move us through changes we didn't choose, or choices we made but aren't sure how to live with. And sometimes, beneath all of it, there are quieter questions about who we are and what we actually want.

In my practice, I offer a space where none of that needs to be rushed or resolved. In working with me, you will be met with care, empathy, curiosity, and time to breathe.

I am a psychotherapist in training, pursuing full certification through a 6-year Postmodern Psychotherapy programme accredited by the Czech Association for Psychotherapy (member of EAP). I came to this work after a decade in public policy and education — research, systems thinking, teaching, working across cultures — and after eight years of my own therapy. That combination shapes how I work: with intellectual curiosity, genuine care, and no pretense of having all the answers.

I see clients in English and Czech and offer a free 15-minute consultation session.

About Jan Vacha

My Story

I came to psychotherapy the long way. A decade in public policy and education — working with the Czech government, the European Commission, studying at Oxford, in London and in Helsinki — taught me a great deal about systems, institutions, and structural change. What it couldn't do was replace the value of genuine human connection which lives in honest conversations and develops over time.

That realization brought me first to teaching and then here. I am now pursuing full certification through a 6-year Postmodern Psychotherapy programme accredited by the Czech Association for Psychotherapy. I work in Prague and online, in English and Czech.

Approach

I don't work from a position of authority or a fixed theory of what your life should look like. My approach is grounded in social constructionism — the idea that meaning is something we build, not something we discover pre-formed. In practice, this means our conversations will be guided by your values, your language, and your sense of what matters, not by a diagnostic framework imposed from outside.

I ask questions more than I give answers. I am curious rather than directive. And I won't pretend to be neutral — I bring myself to this work, which I think makes it more honest. I believe that no one can be truly objective — and if we claim to be, we have not yet discovered our own biases formed by our cultural, social and economic positioning.

Credentials

I hold an MSc (Comparative and International Education) from the University of Oxford and a BA (Education Studies) from University College London.

Working with a Trainee

I am a psychotherapist in training, which means two things worth knowing: I work under regular clinical supervision throughout our time together, and I am still building the breadth of experience that comes with years of practice.

What I can offer is genuine: careful attention, a grounded theoretical foundation, and real investment in your process. If at any point I feel your situation needs a level of support beyond what I can responsibly provide, I will tell you directly and help you find it.

Fully qualified practitioners can be found in the directory of the Czech Association for Psychotherapy here.

As a Client, You May Be...

1/ Overwhelmed by Complexity

You're facing information overload, conflicting advice, too many responsibilities pulling you in different directions. You're overthinking every decision, paralyzed by choices, struggling to find your own voice in the noise. You need space to think clearly and orient yourself.

2/ Navigating Major Transitions

You're in the midst of significant change — relocating to another country, shifting careers, ending or beginning a relationship, establishing boundaries with people in power. You're gathering courage to make the change, finding your way through it, or questioning whether you can continue. You need someone who understands the weight of transformation.

3/ Exploring Identity & Direction

You're questioning who you are and where you're headed. Maybe you're exploring your gender identity and seek affirmative care, reconsidering your career path, or feeling lost after a major life shift. You need space to find your footing in the uncertainty.

But most importantly, you are looking for a safe, non-judgmental space where you can focus only on yourself. That is what I offer — a conversation led with care, curiosity, and no agenda other than yours.
